Synopsis[]
Max gets another shot in a way she never expected, and her life changes in more ways than one. A shift in the line-up threatens everything The Peaches’ have worked for. Carson struggles to keep the team together, while a surprise visitor has her reevaluating everything. Lupe and Esti find common ground.
Plot Summary[]
Greta worries when Jo, Lupe, and Jess don’t come back after the police bust. Eventually, Jo returns- but in handcuffs and bruised up. Beverly lets everyone know that Jo is now on the Blue Sox team as she was traded. Carson is upset about the trade and tries to say something but Beverly tells her in private that she did it with Jo’s best intentions because it’s no longer safe for Jo in Rockford. Greta tells Jo to run away with her instead of going to the Blue Sox but Jo tells her this is her chance to shine as a star in the league.
Max goes to the factory for the all-stars day. She notices that one of the baseball teams lets a woman play for them. Max realizes she knows the woman- it’s the woman she kissed at Bertie’s party, Esther. Clance complements Esther’s baseball skills but Esther doesn’t react well and gets territorial. Max is offended and they clash.
Max and Esther make up and Max opens up about how she loves baseball but has never really been given a chance to play. In the game, Esther fakes an injury so that Max can sub in. Max impresses everyone with her pitching.
Lupe and Jess find Esti, who had been missing, and beg her to come back with them. Esti finally agrees to go with them, if they can teach her how to drive on the way home. Esti crashes the car (which belongs to Beverly).
Greta is upset and tells Carson their relationship was a mistake. Charlie arrives and Greta sees him and Carson together. Carson and Charlie fall back into their old ways after an initially awkward beginning. Charlie finds the letter Carson sent him weeks before. They open up to each other. Carson admits she wants to keep playing baseball which means putting off a family. Charlie tells her about his time in the hospital and that he had a hard time. They hug.
At the train station, Carson begs Greta to come back with her to try and win the championship. Max gets offered a spot on the All-Star roster.
At the end of the episode, Carson goes back to her room and Shirley tells her “I know about you.”
