Greta Gill is a main character in the Amazon Prime Video television series, A League of Their Own. She is portrayed by D'Arcy Carden.
Biography[]
Greta is introduced in Batter Up, when Carson first meets her and Jo, on their way to the AAGPBL try-outs in Chicago. She is a very charismatic character, and her charm and ability to perform femininity prove advantageous in securing her a place on the Rockford Peaches, even after some of the other players get cut during Charm School. Despite this, during Find The Gap, she snaps at a man in the stands for insulting Jo, receiving a note from the board to tone it down when she's playing - and telling her that she's "a little too much out there". This seems to hit a nerve, as she is later seen crying alone in the locker room, before Carson finds and attempts to comfort her. However, standing up for her teammates is something that Greta continues to do throughout the season; jumping in to help Jess at Charm School, standing up to Dove when he pushed Jo too hard in practice, and for Carson when the Peaches needed a player to coach them.
Greta approaches Carson during the Peaches first outing to the bar in Batter Up, and pulls her away to kiss her in one of the backrooms. However, she then leaves with a man later that night. She explains to Carson in Switch Hitter that whenever she's starting something new with someone, she always makes sure to be seen on a man's arm - that it's one of the rules she has to keep herself safe. The rules Greta has for herself cause some conflict between her and Carson over the course of their relationship, as well as in her friendship with Jo.
Greta receives a job opportunity from Vivienne Hughes in Perfect Game, to work in her office during the off season. In her final scene she is seen heading off for New York. When Carson pulls her away for a final goodbye, she declines Greta's previous offer to go with her to New York, but they part on good terms.
Trivia[]
- Greta is the Rockford Peaches' 1st baseman. Her number is 9.
- Greta wears a ring on her pinky finger of her right hand that belonged to Dana, a girl she was in love with when she was 17. She explains to Carson in Back Footed that they got caught, and that she was fine, but that Dana's parents had her "put away".
- When the Peaches are receiving their pay checks in The Cut Off, Jo tells Greta that they should send the money to Greta's mother as an "F.U". But Greta says then she'll know where they are, insinuating that Greta doesn't want her mother to know where she is. This is all the information we get on Greta's mother, but from that it can be implied that they don't have the best relationship.
