Max Chapman is a main character in the Amazon Prime Video television series, A League of Their Own. She is portrayed by Chanté Adams.
Biography[]
Max decides she wants to try out for the GPBL. She approaches the field with her best friend, Clance Morgan, but a few men stop her from trying out because she’s black. Max insists that they see her throw and that they won’t regret letting her try out because she puts on a good show. They tell her no but she proceeds to throw the ball anyway into the stands, impressing everyone and then leaves.
Later that night, Max and Clance go out to a bar and see Clance's husband who works in the kitchen. Max becomes upset when she finds out Gary was scouted for the Rockford Screws. Clance pulls her into the back to cool off. There she sees Greta and Carson kiss.
Max works at her mom's hair salon but still dreams of playing baseball. Max decides to get a job at a local screw factory, hoping working there will help her get a spot on the Rockford Screws team. She even helps her best friend Clance get a job at the same place.
Max starts to get to know her mother's sibling, Bertie. He has short hair and presents as masculine, though Max's family continually refers to him as "Aunt Bertie". At first, Max struggles with the relationship but eventually, as Max begins to accept herself, she begins to bond with Bertie. Max receives a gift from Bertie one day, which is a custom suit. She puts on the slacks and a silk shirt and heads over to a gathering at Bertie's house. She starts to understand Bertie more and more. There, Max meets a woman and kisses her.
Finally, Max gets put on the All-Stars baseball team and she is thrilled.
Max goes to see Bertie before she leaves with the baseball team on a road trip to Minnesota. Bertie gives her advice on where she can go in Iowa to be safe.
